Mapping Situated Accounts

Doing a kind of discursive mapping of critical incidents can help youth come to see the ways different people are positioning themselves and others. For example, in looking at one particular dramatized situation that may mark a public concern, students might discuss the Seeing Others as Decision-makers questions (see Engaging Youth in Public Literacies 2.1) in Chapter 2 for each of the stakeholders involved. This helps students begin to see how each person positions himself or herself, as well as how they might position one another.
